Born in Shanghai in 1955. He graduated from the Department of Arts and Crafts of China Academy of Fine Arts in 1982. He is now a professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Sculpture and Public Art of China Academy of Fine Arts.
Since 1986, he has been engaged in contemporary art creation. His works are characterized by fiber materials such as cotton, hemp, plant, Xuan paper and pulp. At the same time, he has transformed this feature into hard materials. His works embody the cultural background of Oriental spirit.

In 2001, he participated in the exhibition of "29 Chinese contemporary artists" at The National Gallery, Berlin, Germany.
